Florida Retina Institute is proud to announce the additional retina specialists joining this summer and fall: Vikram Ponnusamy, MD; Jessica D. McCluskey, MD; and Vasileios Pililis, MD; expanding specialized retina coverage throughout Florida and Georgia.
Together, these physicians bring outstanding academic achievements, advanced fellowship training, clinical research involvement, international experience, and multilingual backgrounds that reflect Florida Retina Institute’s continued commitment to compassionate, personalized patient care. Dr. Ponnusamy trained at the University of North Carolina, where he served as Chief Resident and contributed to extensive ophthalmic and retinal research. Dr. McCluskey brings additional expertise and dedication to specialized retina care. Dr. Pililis brings international clinical and research experience in medical retina and vitreoretinal surgery, along with multilingual fluency in English, Greek, and German.
Their expertise further strengthens Florida Retina Institute’s mission of continued excellence in vitreo-retinal diseases and surgery, innovation, research, and specialized retina care for the communities we serve.

We actively enroll participants in studies focused on vitreo-retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration, including emerging therapies like gene therapy delivered by intravitreal injection.
Led by Principal Investigator and Clinical Research Director Matthew Cunningham, MD, FASRS, an internationally recognized vitreo-retinal surgeon, retina specialist, and frequent speaker at leading ophthalmology conferences, Florida Retina Institute is home to one of the most progressive and comprehensive research programs in the region.
Dr. Cunningham’s leadership and expertise have positioned Florida Retina Institute at the forefront of retina research, with a strong presence in national and global clinical trials.
